Boy Scout Troop Receives Help After Camping Equipment Was Stolen
Thieves apparently helped themselves to Troop 111's trailer earlier this month, but that couldn't steal the Scouts' faith in humanity.
Since then offers of help have been pouring in, including a $5,000 match for other donations from Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island.
Local service clubs have also offered help and Scout troops in Ohio, Rhode Island and the District of Columbia have said they will donate equipment. The Scouts set up a fund to try to handle the many offers.
So far, $1,600 has been donated. The estimated value of the contents is $15,000. The trailer, valued at $4,000, and about a fifth of the contents were recovered, including the dining canopy.
The trailer was reported missing Nov. 14 after a banquet. It was there four days earlier. Police recovered the trailer itself after a Portland resident turned it in upon realizing it was stolen. For more on this incredible story, click here on the Lansing State Journal.
