Not the news that you want to hear but Dart Container has implemented a limited staff reduction in the US, Canada and Mexico to align administrative and sales staffing with current customer demands and support the company's future strategy and direction.

The reduction represents approximately 6 percent of Dart's administrative and sales staff worldwide and less than 1 percent of the company's total workforce.

Dart employs approximately 15,000 people and is headquartered in Mason and manufactures and distributes food containers.

No one likes to see anyone getting laid off no matter what the situation calls for.

Employees affected by the reduction were offered severance based on years of service, additional monies for those enrolled in Dart medical plans to assist with healthcare premiums, and high quality outplacement assistance.

CEO Jim Lammers said in a company statement, the decision to adjust our corporate and sales workforce was very difficult and painful, but one that was necessary to ensure the continued success of Dart well into the future. The Lansing State Journal has more.
