An estimated 41 million people will journey at least 50 miles from home during the Independence Day holiday weekend July 2-6.

41 million will hit the road or take to the skies which would represent a 1.9 percent increase over the 40.3 million who traveled last Independence Day.

More than eight in 10 travelers will go by automobile, the highest level since the pre-recession holiday in 2007.

Most travelers will pay more for gas this year than any Independence Day since 2008.  The national average price for a gallon of regular today is about 20 cents more than the average on July 4, 2013.
