Everyone has a favorite outdoor hobby. There's a hobby that has become quite popular, believe it or not, it's birdwatching. The sound of birds in the morning or the first sight of a robin are the ultimate symbols of winter's end.

More than 2 million Michigan residents participate in birding activities. Birdwatchers now outnumber hunters and anglers in Michigan, according to a report by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Spring is officially birding season in Michigan and the Michigan Audubon and its affiliate groups host a series of birding festivals around the state in April, May and June.
