The Tower of History is a 210-foot tall structure that gives you a full 360-degree panoramic view of Sault Ste. Marie in Chippewa County.

It has 292 steps to climb - or, you can take the elevator all the way to the top. Once at the top, you can view the ships sailing in and setting out; plus, the bottom floor has a museum you can check out.

Built in 1968 at a cost of $600,000 by the Catholic Church, it was intended to be called the "Shrine of the Missionaries." After the original idea of an entire Catholic complex was scrapped, the church donated the tower to Sault Historic Sites in 1980.

Now you can visit! The tower is located at 326 E Portage Ave, Sault Ste. Marie...a great addition to any Michigan roadtrip!
