Six deaths caused by heroin overdose in Jackson since last month. The latest two just happened last Wednesday night, April 8.

Local authorities are wondering if it's a bad batch or a whole different strength. According to Lt. Elmer Hitt, "We have seen an increase in heroin overdoses since the beginning of the year."

A specialist says most heroin users get started, thanks to their use of prescription medicine, that gets too expensive to buy when their prescriptions run out; so they turn to the less-expensive street drugs. (I try to stay away from prescription drugs and have refused them - like when I've had a tooth pulled, etc.)

This story seems to be at a standstill as the authorities don't seem to know what direction - or action - to take. Have YOU any ideas? They'd like some input from the community - even surrounding communities are welcome to put their thoughts in.
