When William Clay Ford was in charge, the Lions did not have their own cheerleaders.   What they did was invite Cheerleaders from High Schools across the state to come and cheer at games, well, this is about to change.

President Rod Wood announced that the team will have their own cheerleaders this fall.  Wood had said earlier that owner Martha Ford was not opposed to adding the cheerleaders.

The Detroit Lions were one of six NFL teams that did not have their own cheerleading squads, and the possibility of having them while William Ford SR. was in charge was not going to happen.  Since his passing, wife Martha has totally stepped and made some very necessary changes to the team and with the cheerleaders, changes for the fans.

The Lions will hold auditions for "female-identifying applicants' beginning June 25th at Ford Field, with call backs the following week.

Team President Wood said those cheerleaders will cheer at games and also do public appearances.

Since this is the year that MY LIONS will be going to the Super Bowl, this is a nice change.

Bravo Martha Ford.
