The Creepy Swamp sounds like a Stephen King novel, but it's not.  The Creepy Swamp is a well known stretch of vegetation, water and muck on either side of Five Point Highway, one of three primary roads that run east and west across the county south of Charlotte.

People travel the road from Battle Creek Highway to I-69 every day, and for many, it's hard to miss the fact that it's been sinking into the wetlands surrounding it for years.

The proof sits about one mile west of Cochran Road, where Five Point Highway dips and crosses a drain that empties into the Battle Creek River.  In the last decade, crossing that spot has, at times, been impossible after heavy rainfall.

Water that's flooded over top of it has been as deep as 20 inches, most area residents risk getting stuck at 55 mph.

County officials say they've begun addressing the problem, making plans for a temporary solution and exploring long term fixes that aren't simple and could cost millions of dollars.  The Lansing State Journal has the story.
