Changes are taking place along Michigan Avenue on Lansing's east side, but the new layout will vanish at the end of the week.

According to the Lansing State Journal, Lansing officials are hoping the installation of temporary street elements, known as "streetscapes," will spark dialogue about a future redesign of the major commercial corridor that intersects with Michigan's state Capitol downtown and connects Lansing to East Lansing.

The new streetscapes are highlighted with cones, mulch and landscaping bags on the 2000 block of Michigan Avenue.

The designs include wider sidewalks, protected bike lanes, and landscaping.  Lansing Mayor Andy Schor said the temporary layout is intended to provide a visual representation of how Michigan Avenue could be transformed in the near future.
