UPDATE: Lansing police said at a 1:45 p.m. press conference that the suspect in the Rite Aid shooting was still at large. Police said the motive behind the shooting and whether it was random was not yet clear.

Police attempted a canine track at the scene, but the weather conditions rendered it unsuccessful.

Police also remained unclear as to whether the shooting was related to the one just minutes later in East Lansing, although they are not ruling out that possibility.

Police advised citizens to call 911 if they see a person matching the suspect description. Lansing police also asked for tips from anyone who may have seen anything before, during or after the shooting. Calls can be placed to 517-483-4600.

A man walked into a Lansing pharmacy then shot and killed an employee Monday morning, police say.

The shooting happened about 11 a.m. at Rite Aid, 3106 E. Saginaw St. The victim died at the scene, WLNS TV 6 reports.

About 15 minutes later, another shooting occurred about a mile away in the 1800 block of East Lansing's Coolidge Road. Police have surrounded and blocked off the area, and eye-witness accounts say authorities have guns drawn.

Police have not confirmed whether the two shootings are related.

The incidents caused multiple schools in the area to lock down. As of 12 p.m., all East Lansing schools as well as Lansing's Fairview Elementary and Pattengill Middle School were still locked down.

Police said the shooter in the Rite Aid incident was a man about 30 years old between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10 wearing all black: a black top, black pants, a black hat and carrying a black bag.

Lansing police were expected to hold a press conference about 1 p.m. You can watch it live via WLNS.
