Is this the oldest hardware store in Michigan? The State of Michigan says so, and it's been recognized as such.

Raymond Hardware has been operating continually since 1850, when it was founded by Uri Raymond in Port Sanilac...actually, the town was known as 'Bark Shanty Pointe' at the time. A few years later, the operation was moved to it's present location, 29 S. Ridge Street.

When Uri died in 1899, his son Fred took over; when Fred passed away in 1931, his son Oli ran the store until he'd had enough of the business and sold it in 1969.

Lots of tourists visit Raymond Hardware because of it's historic value, it's unique gift items and.....it's ghost. Being as old as it is, some legends were bound to pop up; to this day, employees and customers alike believe the store is haunted by the ghost of Fred Raymond. Make sure you ask the owner about the ghost when you stop in.

So add this to your roadtrip itinerary, stop in and get yourself a "Home Of Michigan's Oldest Hardware" t-shirt!
