PURE MICHIGANIA: Vernor’s Ginger Ale is 150 Years Old This Week
Some say Vernors is the tastiest soft drink ever...and I may have to agree.
It started out as "Vernor's" and years later, the apostrophe was dropped so it just read "Vernors."
Vernors was created in 1866 by James Vernor, a druggist who came up with the concoction that would ease upset stomachs...and it did, while being delicious at the same time. He mixed some medical tonic along with vanilla, various spices and a touch of ginger to help relieve stomach pain. Since James was going off to fight the Civil War, he stored his brew in an oaken cask; upon his return four years later, he opened the cask, tasted it and was astonished how delicious it was...and Vernor's was born.
