It's cold outside! Schools are closed and many businesses are also closed.  For those of us snug in our homes it's kind of nice to have an unexpected day off.  For those with no homes it's another very cold day in a shelter.  Our shelters have seen unprecedented numbers of people since in got cold in November, but since the ice storms and now this, they are at or over capacity and their budgets are being used up very quickly.  So maybe you could take a moment and check them out online, see what it is they do and what it is they need right now.  Some need warm clothes, gloves, hats etc and of course a donation to the Greater Lansing Food Bank, can make a big difference.  Shelters like The City Rescue Mission, the Volunteers of American Day shelter, Haven House, Advent House, Gateway community Services, EVE Inc, Eaton County Shelter, Loaves and Fishes overnight shelter, not to mention the Red Cross, who helps out those who face fires or accidents.  What a good way to start out 2014, by helping others.
