Q: When did the Beatles stop singing about love and begin writing songs about other relevant things? All their early stuff was about male-female relationships so what was the turning point?

A: The first song written by a Beatle that was not about love was NOWHERE MAN, composed by John Lennon but credited to Lennon/McCartney.

Written in 1965, Lennon was having a tough time trying to come up with a song for their latest album; he is quoted as saying, "I thought of myself sitting there, doing nothing and getting nowhere.....I remember I was just going through this paranoia trying to write something and nothing would come out so I just lay down and tried to not write and then this came out, the whole thing came out in one gulp."

Lennon's original handwritten lyrics for NOWHERE MAN were sold for $455,500 at Christie's of New York.
