East Lansing's City Council approved a smoking ban prohibiting the use of tobacco in city parks, plazas and recreational facilities.

The council unanimously approved the ordinance following a public hearing Tuesday, according to East Lansing Mayor Mark Meadows.

The City Council made a change to the ordinance that also prohibits smoking in public parking lots when those lots are being used for community events.

The ordinance does not ban smoking on sidewalks, unless the smoker is within 50 feet of the entrance to a building owned by East Lansing.  Here's more from the Lansing State Journal.
