Nine College Players from Michigan in the NCAA Tourney Not Playing At Home

As the NCAA Tournament begins this week, we all know that several Michigan high school standouts are playing for the Michigan State Spartans and the Michigan Wolverines. There are other high profile players from the state in the tourney as well, but among eight other schools.

If you're planning on watching the games all week long, here are the players set to take the floor in the Big Dance.

Nick Perkins - Senior, Buffalo - Graduated from Milan
The only Mid-American Conference school in the tournament again this year is the Buffalo Bulls, who reached the second round last year. The nationally-ranked Bulls have a Michigander in Nick Perkins, who is second on the squad in scoring at 14.4 points and leads with 7.1 rebounds a game. He is also an instant spark off the bench. Playing in all 34 games this season for Buffalo, he has just one start. The Health and Human Services major has averaged 12.7 points and six rebounds in his 137 career games.

Caleb Broodo - Redshirt Freshman, Houston - Graduated from Midland Dow
The Houston Cougars are back in the Dance as an at-large bid from the American Athletic Conference. They reached the second round last year and was eliminated by National runner-up Michigan. Caleb Broodo has not seen a lot of action since joining the Cougars two seasons ago. After he was redshirted in his first year on campus, he saw just three minutes of play in Houston's conference tournament loss to Connecticut.

Rob Edwards - Redshirt Junior, Arizona State - Graduated from Detroit Cass Tech
A Michigan player with one of the longer journeys is Rob Edwards, who is in hist first year with the Sun Devils after transferring from Cleveland State. Edwards is fourth in scoring at Arizona State at 11.3 points a game in 26 appearances, 19 of them as a starter. He also is a 39.4% three-point shooter on the year and 81.4% from the free throw line, which leads the team.

Jamal Cain - Sophomore, Marquette - Graduated from Detroit Cornerstone Health & Technology
The first of two Detroit natives for the Marquette Golden Eagles is Jamal Cain, who is in his second season at the Milwaukee campus. Cain is having a down year after being named the Most Improved Player on the team as a freshman. He has played in 28 games, including his first three starts of his career, average 1.8 points a game.

Greg Elliott - Sophomore, Marquette - Graduated from Detroit East English
The other player from Detroit is Greg Elliott, who is sitting out this season and will have three years of eligibility following this redshirt season. Elliott was also received the Most Improved Award as a freshman with Cain, averaging 4.5 points in 35 games that included four starts.

Milan Williams - Junior, Colgate - Graduated from Detroit Country Day
A Michigander from the smallest school on our list also has had a very small role on the squad. Milan Williams is a Sociology major at the Hamilton, New York, college and has only six career appearances for the Patriot League champs. He has only scored four points in 19 career minutes during his freshmen and sophomore years. He has not played this season.

Duane Washington, Jr. - Freshman, Ohio State - Originally from Grand Rapids
This is a little bit of a stretch but there are some home roots here for Duane Washington, Jr., who is in his first year with the Buckeyes. After spending his first three years of high school at Grand Rapids Christian, Washington completed his high school career in California at Sierra Canyon, where he was first-team All-State. Washington has seen significant time in his freshman year, averaging 7.2 points a game in 33 contests, including two starts.

Taylor Currie - Freshman, Wisconsin - Graduated from Clarkston
One of the youngest players from Michigan has also not stepped on the floor in NCAA play. Taylor Currie completed his high school courses at Clarkston and graduated after his junior year. Before graduating, he was a member of the two-time Class A State Champion boys basketball team. He has yet to see time on the floor for the Badgers.

Corey Allen - Junior, Georgia State - Graduated from Ypsilanti Community
Another player that has yet to take the floor with his current team is Corey Allen, who will join the Georgia State Panthers next year after sitting this season out. He has transferred from Detroit Mercy, where he was Freshman of the Year in the Horizon League while playing for the Titans. Allen averaged 14.4 points a game in 59 games in Detroit, including 44 starts. The Business Development major will have two years of eligibility when he joins the Panthers.
