Children and teens from the ages of 2 to 18 should consume no more than 25 grams of sugar a day, according to new guidelines issued by the American Heart Association.

Strong evidence supports the association of added sugars with increased cardiovascular disease risk in children through increased energy intake, increased adiposity and dyslipidemia.

The guidelines mean these children and teens can have roughly six teaspoons of added sugar daily, amounting to around 100 calories.

The AHA also advised that children should have no more than one sugar sweetened beverage per week.  Check out the  new recommendations at abcnews.go.com.
