Michigan State University's freshman class this year is one of the biggest in its history.  And its African American freshman class, at more than 600 students, is the largest in the Big Ten, according to a statement from the university.

According to the Lansing State Journal, the 2021 class of about 8,000 first year students arrived Sunday and starts courses Wednesday.

Another 1,550 transfer students will join the first year students.  About 72 percent of the new enrollees are from Michigan and stem from a freshman application pool of about 36,000.
