Smoking in the United States has hit another all-time low.  Is it because smoking is banned in so many places now, or is it the fact that people finally 'get it', that smoking will kill you.

About 14 percent of adults in the U.S,. were smokers last year, down from about 16percent the year before.  There hadn't been much change the previous two years, but its clear there is a general decline and the new figures show its continuing.  That from Michael Cummings of the tobacco research program in South Carolina.  Everything is in pointed in the right direction m, including falling cigarette sales.

The new figures that were released show that about 30 million of adults are still smokers.    Good news, Teens are shunning smokes.  The latest numbers show that about 9% of teens are smokers which is a new low.

Anti smoking campaigns, cigarette taxes and smoking bans are combining to bring down the rates of adult smokers.  The launch of electronic cigarettes and their growing popularity has also played a role.
