I love history about Michigan...the greatest state in America, as far as I'm concerned.

Did you know that (even though the Mackinac Bridge didn't open until 1957) the idea of a suspension bridge between the LP and UP was being considered as far back as 1884? True...it kept getting shelved, argued over, with ideas ever-changing.

The above 45-minute video - shown on the History Channel - documents the genesis & building of the Mighty Mac.

It explains and shows in detail how it was built and how it sustains terrible weather; it shows vintage footage of the construction, interviews with the men who worked on the construction and opening day with the first car to cross over from the LP to the UP.

Proud of our state? Enjoy historic information about it? Then you'll enjoy this 45-minute video.
