ROADSIDE MICHIGAN: The Antique Capitol of the World
The Antique Capitol of the World is right here in southern Michigan…who’da thunk?
The town of Allen is located in Hillsdale County…and it’s chock-full of antique shops and curiosities. Part of the reason for so many antiques is the historic Michigan road that runs through it…US-12, an old stagecoach trail that ran all the way through Michigan, from Chicago to Detroit.
Preston’s Antique Gaslight Village features approximately twenty old historic buildings, many of them being moved from various locations in a 50-mile radius….beautiful Victorian homes, an old 1800’s church, general store, an old blacksmith’s shop, one-room schoolhouses and many more.
The Hog Creek Antique Mall encompasses 23,000 square feet of antiques and collectibles…..plus there is SO much more to see and peruse; you may have to go back a few more days just to soak everything in…..no kidding. On top of all the antique shops, there are yard sales and garage sales a-plenty. WHEW.
The photos above show you some of these shops, sales and locations. if you love antiquing, this is a stop you HAVE to make! Check it out for yourself and see!
Allen is located on Historic old US-12, east of Coldwater (SEE PHOTOS).
