Did your house shudder and your cabinets clang about noon on Saturday?

That, friends, was an earthquake!

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake happened at 12:23 p.m., lasting just a few seconds. The epicenter was in Galesburg, which is about 65 miles southwest of Lansing, according to Ingham County Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

The quake was palpable through the capital region and Michigan at large, as social media shows. In fact, at least one area building was damaged, in East Lansing.

Earthquakes in Michigan are indeed rare. The last one felt here was in 2010, when a 5.0 magnitude quake in central Canada rippled through our state.

Any damage should be reported to authorities.
