There's a new sheriff in town or should we say a new Lansing Fire Chief taking over sometime in April.

Yes, Lansing will soon have a new fire chief and his name is Michael Mackey.  Mackey worked in Florida for more than 30 years with the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and recently served as that department's interim chief.

According to the Lansing State Journal, former Norton Shores Fire Chief David Purchase has been overseeing Lansing's fire department on an interim basis since July.

Mackey's salary and contract are still being negotiated.  Purchase will stay on in Lansing through the end of January.  After that, Assistant Fire Chief Mike Tobin will manage the department until Mackey starts his new job in April.
