According to the Lansing State Journal, Lansing City Council seats are in high demand.  As of Tuesday, 25 candidates had filed for four open council seats.

Thirteen have filed for two at large seats; five for the 2nd Ward and seven for the 4th Ward.  The field includes two incumbents; 2nd Ward Council Member Tina Houghton and At Large Council Member Kathie Dunbar.

Also by Tuesday's deadline, six had filed to run for mayor and two for city clerk, including incumbent City Clerk Chris Swope.

The city's primary election is Aug. 8, and the general election is Nov. 7.  Races are non-partisan, but primaries are held to reduce the field to two candidates for each position.
