Business at JC Penny is not doing so well, in fact things have gotten so bad that the company had to make the decision to close some of their stores.   The company will be shutting down 138 stores  with thousands of workers losing their jobs.

The JC Penny closings in Michigan will affect stores in Battle Creek at the Lakeview Square Mall, the Delta Plaza in Escanaba, Westshore Mall in Holland,  Copper County Mall in Houghton, Birchwood Mall in Kingsford, The Midland Mall in Midland and Cascade Crossings in Sault Ste. Marie.

Mid Michigan was very lucky that our Pennys stores will remain open and that the workers there will still have their  jobs.

The JC Penny stores are joining a line of other anchor stores in malls that are closing.   Many of those stores say they are having a hard time competing with online shopping.
