The last ‘Inside Outtrailer was fine, but mostly left us wanting more. It was a teaser in the truest sense of the word. Today, however, we get our first good look at Pixar’s newest film and it’s as good as we hoped.

This is the first year since 2005 that we haven’t had a new Pixar movie, and only one of the last four Pixar movies wasn’t a sequel, so you’ll excuse us if we’re a little excited about an original Pixar movie. If you hadn’t heard, this one is directed by Pete Docter (‘Up’) and goes a little something like this:

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

In addition to the voice cast listed above, you can hear Kyle MacLachlan and Diane Lane as Riley’s mom and dad. There’s some gender cliches going on here (mom is hectoring dad, while daydreaming about a hunky Brazilian, while dad is tuned out, thinking about sports) that we hope are addressed throughout the script. Maybe we see Riley (and Joy) start to challenge those ideals that she sees in her parents? And, through that, the parents grow as well?

While we get to see a lot of the characters here (including the emotions inside the heads of mom and dad), the one character we don’t mean is Joy, who is ostensibly the lead of the emotions. We’re sure that there will be even more trailers as we get closer to next summer giving us a much bigger look at the scope of the film.

‘Inside Out’ opens in theaters on June 19, 2015.
