There appears to be no way around it, Ingham County is facing a hiring freeze due to a projected budget shortfall of $3.6 million dollars.

The Ingham County Controller told the Lansing State Journal that the recovery of property tax revenue was slow, and some increased pension liability payments have in part contributed to the 3.6 million dollar budget shortfall.   With the county looking at a number so high a hiring freeze will be enough and more cuts will not be needed.

Positions in the county like a dispatcher or a jail corrections would not need approval before hiring, but any other hires would.

Officials are hopeful that the freeze on new hires will be enough, they do not want to have to hand out pink slips at the end of the year.
