Why is it that every time you eat the wrong types of snacks, you end up gaining weight? And we're not talking about just 5 pounds, we mean over 5 pounds!

I love snacking like everybody else, but the right thing to do is snack on healthy foods. Before I get started with the healthy foods, just let me say that I would give anything to snack on a sleeve of cookies or 5 slices of pizza, and maybe even a big slice of pie.

That is certainly not the way to go if you're trying to maintain a healthy weight. So what are the best healthy snacks you can eat without gaining weight.

1. Popcorn. This is my go to snack every weekend. Popcorn is a whole grain and it's low in fat. And it's a gluten free snack.

2. Fruit. Okay I know this sounds boring, but fruit with a few mixed nuts and some cottage cheese is considered a healthy snack. Just don't eat too much of it.

3. Nuts. Nuts are definitely loaded with protein and healthy fats. I eat nuts all the time, pretty much every day of the week. My favorite nuts are almonds and lightly salted dry roasted nuts.

4. Grapes. Overall, grapes are very good for you and very nutritious. Grapes have very few calories and are very satisfying.

So here's the bottom line, if you don't want to gain weight, then stay away from:

1. Cookies.

2. Potato Chips.

3. Ice Cream.

4. Chips and Salsa.

5. Subs and Pizza.

It takes real will power to stick with the healthier snacks. Hang in there because I know you can do it!
