The latest Halloween movie keeps shattering records. In just under three weeks since its release, the film has raked in $173 million at the domestic box office and $229 worldwide, making it the highest-grossing slasher film of all-time. The previous top grossing slasher film was Wes Craven’s 1996 film Scream, which make $103 million domestically and $173 million globally.

The Halloween films have combined to make the most profitable horror franchise of all-time as well, cashing in with over $761 million in ticket sales. Halloween now pushes Friday the 13th to No. 2 with a gross of $755 million and A Nightmare on Elm Street to No. 3 with $703 million.

The David Gordon Green-directed installment of the horror series is a huge success since it was produced for a mere $10 million and has scared up over $229 million globally. Last month, the film made history for landing the second biggest October movie opening and the biggest opening for the Halloween franchise, bringing in $77.5 million.

Halloween also set a record for the best movie opening for a female lead over 55, as Jamie Lee Curtis returned as “Laurie Strode,” now on the hunt for Michael Myers after his escape.
