Another push to get that flu shot.  Those with the Michigan Department of Community Health say holidays bring people together--and bring germs that can spread quickly. 

 

Last year, only 40-percent of the population in Michigan received the vaccine.  That's below the national average.  Flu shots are available as early as September with those with compromised immune systems getting priority over the general population.

In years past, there were shortages, so the majority of those wanting the vaccine had to wait until November or December.  This year, however, there is plenty to go around and health officials are urging those 'still on the fence' about getting one, to get it and quickly.

There is no guarantee that the vaccine will prevent the flu, but doctors say it should lessen the symptoms and duration.
