Pickleball, a recreational sport gaining popularity among seniors, may have a home on the west side of Lansing by this summer.

The Department of Natural Resources has recommended the approval of a $32,500 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant which would cover half the cost of converting two existing tennis courts at Delta Mills park into up to eight new outdoor pickleball courts later this year.

Playing it requires less movement than with tennis and games are shorter, lasting about 15 minutes apiece.

The pickleball court is smaller so seniors can be very competive while moving shorter distances.  It's also a lot of fun.
