Law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty in 2017 were honored during a ceremony on the steps of the state Capitol on Monday night.

The Michigan State University and East Lansing police departments served as color guard for the ceremony, which included a helicopter flyover by the aviation unit of Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

For 25 years, Michigan Concerns of Police Officers Survivors has celebrated the lives of fallen officers with their Annual Peace Officers Memorial Service.

To date, The Michigan Concerns of Police Officers Survivors says almost 600 officers have lost their lives in the line of duty across the state.  The Lansing State Journal has more.
