The sound of brick walls crashing to the ground echoed through downtown East Lansing over the weekend.  Crews turned a long vacant building into piles of rubble.

Construction crews began demolishing the former Citizens Bank building at the corner of Grand River Avenue and Abbot Road.

The crews were expected to bring down the vacant buildings in the 100 block of West Grand River this weekend.  Clean up work on the site is expected to take a week or two.

There have been multiple plans to redevelop the site over the course of the past 15 years.  Here's more from the Lansing State Journal.
