Between the years of 2008 and 2012, East Lansing was ranked eighth on the list of most walkable small cities with 23.3 percent of residents saying they walk to work.

A recent blog post featured East Lansing as one of the top 12 college towns for commuting on foot in the nation.

"People really enjoy being able to get places on foot rather than taking their vehicles," said Tim Dempsey, director of planning, building and development for the city of East Lansing.

Walkability is a hot topic, something that can attract people to a community and increase the quality of life there.  Here's more from the Lansing State Journal.
