Delta Township officials are rethinking a ban on residential beekeeping.  The Board of Trustees will discuss whether an ongoing revision of its zoning ordinance should include measures that allow both beekeeping and chicken ownership in residential neighborhoods.

The current ordinance doesn't allow either.  If you remember, the move comes nine months after Gabe and Heidi Lopez said goodbye to their honey bees.

The couple moved their four hives from their home in the Greenfield Acres subdivision to a friend's property in Eagle after a neighbor reported the bees to the township.  At the time they'd been maintaining the hives for a year.

The Lopezes have been advocating for an amendment in the township's ordinance ever since.  Delta Township Supervisor Ken Fletcher said the board is receptive to their position, but ultimately undecided.  Here's more from the Lansing State Journal.
