According to the Lansing State Journal, City Council is expected to vote Monday on passage of an ordinance that would set civil and criminal penalties for gambling.

The legislation would prohibit virtually all games that are played for money.  That includes bingo, card games and computer-based games.

The ordinance would forbid gambling, regardless of whether it took place at a commercial establishment or in someone's home.

The proposed ordinance carves out an exemption to allow gambling that is licensed by the state, such as the Michigan Lottery.
