Ingham County Clerk Begins Officiating Gay Marriages
Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum has already begun officiating marriages of gay couples in light of the Supreme Court ruling this morning (June 26). She sent out a statement saying her office will stay open as late as it has to today to take care of couples who want to be wed immediately:
"Same-sex couples and their families have waited long enough and I cannot imagine forcing them to wait a moment longer. Thanks to my dedicated staff, the County Clerk's Office will remain open today until all loving couples, residing in Ingham County, have a chance to say 'I do.'"
Michigan has a three-day waiting period for marriage licenses, but Byrum says she will waive it. Application fee for a marriage license is $20 and the waiver fee is $50.
