How many times prior to the 4th of July have you heard fireworks in your neighborhood well before the 4th of July celebration?  For me, countless times when fireworks shouldn't be lit until at least July 3rd.

Now there's a city ordinance that bans the use of private fireworks overnight.  Per city ordinance, residents are not allowed to use personal fireworks---firecrackers, sparklers, bottle rockets and other devices that let off smoke or explode---without a permit except on the day before, the day of and the day after national holidays such as Independence day.

Anyone in violation will be cited for a civil infraction and could be fined $500.  Fireworks also will be confiscated.

The city's official fireworks show begins at about 10:15p.m. Friday at Adado Riverfront park.
