Can you believe that our extremely dry weather with no relief in sight could also mean no July 4th fireworks.  Mason Fire Chief Kerry Minshall said, "It's just been too dry, and there's no relief in sight, not for the next week anyway."

Fire officials in more than 15 area communities on Monday banned open burning until the region gets some relief from a month long dry spell.  And that could be awhile, based on current forecasts.

Some fire officials warned that July 4th fireworks celebrations could be postponed if conditions don't change.

Burning bans are in effect throughout the Mid-Michigan area.  To see the entire list, click here on the Lansing State Journal.
