Areas of Washington Square will be closed throughout the month as the Lansing Board of Water & Light replaces lead service lines to properties.  The project started on May 9 and is scheduled to end on May 27.

This week, Washington Square is closed between Allegan and Washtenaw streets.  Next week, BWL crews will tackle the stretch between Washtenaw and Lenawee Streets.

Work to replace lead service lines began in 2004.  Since then, 14,000 lines have been replaced at a cost of $42 million.  Fewer than 400 remain and are expected to be replaced by June 2017.  The Lansing State Journal has all the details.
