Expanding Pattengill Academy into a high school, upgrading Everett High School and creating specialty campuses at Sexton and Eastern are among the recommendations a facilities task force presented to the Lansing school board. Task force leaders told the board, the district should partner with local businesses to create state-of-the-art academic programs focused on the employment needs of area businesses.
It recommended a focus at Eastern on health sciences and the insurance industry, while the focus at Sexton would remain science, technology, engineering and math.
The task force also told the board it should consider asking voters for a tax increase to pay for the expansion of Pattengill--the district's newest building opened in January 2007 as a middle school--and updates at Everett and other buildings.
