Several companies are dropping the letters A,B and O from their logos as part of a unique effort to encourage blood donations.

Blood donations for all blood types are critically low.  The American Red Cross is dropping the letters A, B and O from its logo.

It hopes the glaring illustration of missing letters will encourage blood donations.  Major companies are doing the same fro brands like Mastercard, State Farm, and Oreo.

According to WILX-TV 10, the problem is that the blood supply doesn't always meet the demand.  Thirty-eight percent of the population is eligible to donate blood.  But only 3% ever do.
