Pet owners are being encouraged to practice safe flea control and Doctors say all cities in our country are being encouraged to step up to stop the spread of Typhus.

This past Friday, Pasadena reported an epidemic level of typhus fever.  20 residents have been confirmed to have typhus fever and Doctors expect that number to grow.

Typhus fever is a disease that can cause serious complication that require a lengthy hospitalization, but rarely causes death.  residents are urged to take precautions to prevent fleas in and around their homes.   To late at my home, fleas seem to be winning the battle, no matter what we do to stop them.

Flea-borne typhus can be spread to humans from bacteria found in infected fleas.  Typhus symptom's can start within two weeks of contact.  There are several things that people can do to prevent flea-born typhus fever.  The most important preventative measure is to minimize  exposure to fleas.  Pets, yards and homes should be kept free of flees.    If you know how to do that please let me know, we feel at our home we are losing the battle against the fleas.  3 cats one dog and we do have fleas...ick.
